As a Transportation Planner joining City and Regional Planning, you will play a key role in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, strategies and long range network plans that support the realization of the Municipal Development Plan and the Calgary Development Plan including the Complete Streets Policy, the Neighbourhood Streets Policy, policies and strategies to support active modes, transit, and new technologies such as electric and autonomous vehicles, parking, curbside management, goods movement, plazas and other public spaces. You will also support alignment of these efforts with City policies and strategies on Climate and the Environment, Accessibility, Equity, Diversity, Anti-racism, Reconciliation, Recreation, Inclusion and Sustainability. You will apply your skills, experience and expertise in collaborating and problem solving across Service Lines and Departments, as well as with customers and partners to arrive at quality outcomes for all residents, business owners and visitors of Calgary. Primary duties include:
• Develop policies and strategies (research, engage with internal/external partners, develop documents, and 
present to Council for direction).
• Develop long-range network plans (research, assess data and analysis, investigate feasibility, engage with 
internal/external partners, and develop maps and tools to communicate long range plans).
• Lead policy/strategy projects (coordinate resources and deliverables, build relationships with partners, 
coordinate engagement and communication resources, manage risks, and comply with corporate project 
management standards).
• Assess policies and strategies through periodic monitoring of key indicators, progress of specific corporate 
actions, and benchmarking against comparable jurisdictions.
• Educate internal and external partners on policies, strategies, and long-range network plans and support 
staff across the organization in meeting our commitments to council and Calgarians as expressed in those 
policies and strategies.

Qualifications
• A degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
• At least 4 years of related experience is required.
• Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
• Experience with policy and strategy development, implementation, and monitoring is required.
• In-depth knowledge of at least some areas of complete streets, walking, cycling, transit, public space, curbside management, traffic calming, street activation, electric or autonomous vehicles, goods movement, or transit oriented development design, policy and practice in Calgary, in Canada and in similar settings.
• Experience with multi-modal network analysis, forecast modelling, and feasibility analysis is considered an asset.
• Development industry experience, experience working and negotiating with internal and external partners, with delivering adult education to technical and/or non-technical audiences, and with communicating with Council and senior leaders, are considered an asset.
• Success in this position requires: strong analytical, business planning, project management, and organizational effectiveness skills, an ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives, ability to balance technical and non-technical competing priorities, and demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to present and respond to questions at Council committee meetings and public meetings, usually during working hours and sometimes in the evening or on weekends.
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on relationship building in addition to well-developed analytical and organizational skills.
• Success in this position requires the ability to understand diverse partners interests and negotiate solutions.
