A Day in the Life of a Principal Engineer
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs like AutoCAD in order to fulfill production work on your projects as needed and/or supervise others doing that production work. You will manage projects and guide your team through design development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and answer questions during construction. You will work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
You will assist Engineering Group Managers and/or the Engineering Director in the Northeast by independently managing and leading company projects in the region. You'll be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, delivering projects to construction. You will also be participating in business development, project pursuits, and play a key role in the firm's quality initiatives. In an industry that is constantly changing, you'll be at the forefront of delivering creative solutions to challenging projects.

Work Schedule for a Principal Engineer
This full-time position typically works a hybrid schedule of 40 hours a week, with at least two to three days a week in the office. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Boston office of Toole Design is conveniently located in downtown Boston, blocks from multiple MBTA subway lines. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
