CDOT is hiring two (2) Coordinating Engineer I positions in the Complete Streets and Highways Sections. The Complete Streets section designs and implements projects within the Department’s bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and traffic safety programs. While the Highways section implements projects within the Department’s arterial resurfacing, corridor reconstruction, traffic signal modernization, and major intersection programs. Both positions will assist in the management of design engineering work within the respective programs. The selected candidates will work to ensure projects use community engagement, context-sensitive design, and engineering best practices to create streets and public places that are well-designed, well-constructed, and reflective of the unique character of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Chicago, IL, for a Coordinating Engineer I. The Coordinating Engineer I will be responsible for overseeing urban transportation projects, ensuring compliance with city regulations, coordinating with various internal/external stakeholders, and managing project timelines and budgets.

 

Salary

$112,608.00

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required
  • Valid State of Illinois Drivers license upon start of employment

 

Preference given to candidates with:

  • Previous project management experience in urban transportation design
  • Knowledgeable of best practices in bicycle/pedestrian/transit infrastructure and policies
  • Previous work experience with traffic design and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects in a complex and high-stress environment
