The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Regional Transportation Planner I, II, or III to join our MPO/Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization with the Community Development team. In this role, you’ll contribute to shaping the future of transportation across our region through long-range planning, policy development, and collaborative project coordination. You’ll work with engaged member communities who value regional collaboration and have recently adopted the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)—a forward-thinking roadmap for mobility, infrastructure, and sustainability.

About the Position
Provides professional services and assistance for a range of transportation planning, urban design, project management and related Organization services and activities. The Planner II classification is distinguished from the Planner I classification by the increased complexity and diversity of the planning developed by individuals in this classification.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates the development and implementation of long-range planning activities.
- Develops and maintains GIS-based projects for data analysis related to long-range planning, annexations, and infrastructure investment.
- Research best practices and innovative strategies related to long-range planning activities and other planning principles, projects, and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Prepares reports, open house display materials and documentation related to planning projects.
- Provides information and responds to internal requests and questions from the public, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Analyzes and prepares recommendations for ordinance and policy amendments for consideration.
- Participates in the administration programs and initiatives including:
- Financial management;
- Marketing, promotion, and education; and
- Performance monitoring and evaluation.
- Research best practices and innovative strategies for increasing quality of life and social offerings.
- Performs related work as required.

Required Education and Experience
Regional Transportation Planner I:- Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, landscape architecture, architecture, public administration, or related field, and up to 1 year of related experience in planning, urban design, or public administration. OR
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience. (i.e., one year of relevant work experience may substitute for one year of education.)
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.
- Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, landscape architecture, architecture, public administration, or related field, and 3 to 5 years of experience in planning, urban design, or public administration. OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience. (i.e., one year of relevant work experience may substitute one year of education.)
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.
Regional Transportation Planner III:
- Bachelor's Degree Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Public Administration, or related field and
- 5 to 7 years of experience in planning, urban design, or public administration OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Salary Range- I: $61,484.80 - $82,992.00 annually
- II: $65,769.60 - $88,816.00 annually
- III: $75,316.80 - $101,753.60 annually
- I: $61,484.80 - $82,992.00 annually
